FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is my kitchen large enough for a Galley? We can appreciate that in small kitchens, every inch counts. Because of that, we like to say, “The smaller the kitchen, the more important a Galley becomes.” This is because our Workstations actually provide counter space, rather than taking it away. And, just as important as counter space, are the essential tools that make up each Culinary Kit. Our response is, Yes, your kitchen is large enough, because no kitchen is too small for a Galley.
Why should I buy a Galley? The award-winning Galley is the epitome of kitchen workstations. Made right here in the USA by skilled craftsmen who adhere to the strictest industry guidelines of excellence, the list of its features and qualities is impressive. We hear from appreciative Galley owners almost daily that they don’t know how they ever cooked without one, and that The Galley is now the most-used ‘appliance’ in their kitchen. Can you really afford to not have one?
Are there other accessories available besides those that come with The Galley?Yes, there are 6 additional, thoughtfully-inspired accessories available to enhance The Galley experience! For example, the Dual-tier Condiment Serving Board turns The Galley into a wonderful buffet for entertaining. Do you cook like a chef? The 2″ Chef’s Block is for you, raising the cutting surface above your counter top level so you can chop away with reckless abandon. These are just a few, you can see all the accessories here.
How long will I wait for my Workstation once it’s ordered? All of the standard Workstations are in stock in our warehouse in Oklahoma, so depending where you live, you should receive yours within ten days to two weeks of placing your order with your Authorized Galley Dealer. For custom Workstations, please allow five to six to eight weeks from the time you place your order.
Will The Galley Workstation fit in standard size cabinets?Yes, all the Galley IWS models are designed to fit in standard width US and European 24” deep cabinets.
What are the ideal locations for the Galley Workstation? The ideal locations for the Galley Workstation IWS 4, 5, 6, or 7 are in an island or peninsula. In addition, the IWS 2 or 3 can be located behind it as a second prep station and/or to be used as a clean-up sink. By having the Galley facing outward on an island or peninsula, it keeps those preparing the meal involved in the conversation with family and friends. If you’re not sure how it might work best in your kitchen, you can visit with your local kitchen designer, or you can send the floor plan with measurements of your kitchen to us, and we can make recommendations for you.
Will I lose counter space when I install the Galley Workstation? No, in fact you will even gain counter space in your kitchen. Upper- and lower-tier cutting boards, drying racks, upper-tier serving boards, mixing bowls & colanders in platforms create additional counter work space.
Where is the Galley Workstation Tiered Sink made?Every Galley Workstation is hand-crafted in the USA.
What is the Galley Workstation Tiered Sink made of?It is fabricated of 16 gauge/304 stainless steel, which is the highest grade available. The stainless has a custom Angel finish, a special sound-deadening undercoating, and sound pads for a quieter work experience.
What is the Angel finish? The Angel finish that all Galleys have is a custom finish designed specially for the stainless tiered interior of the Galley Workstation. The Angel finish was developed to soften the high reflectivity of standard finishes on stainless steel and for easier maintenance. The finish resists water spots, hides light random scratches, and is easy to clean. If it is scratched, it can be re-sanded with an orbital sander with 120-grit sandpaper to restore the original luster. Visit Use & Care to watch our short “how to” video.
What are the Galley Workstation Cutting Boards made of?The gray and the white accessories are made of commercial-quality, high density resin. The resin is engineered for durability, low maintenance and safety. The textured surface safely holds food in place without slipping. Unlike other materials, the resin does not absorb bacteria, splinter, chip, swell, peel, rot, warp, bend, or crack. These cutting boards substantially outlast cutting boards made from other materials.
The Natural Bamboo accessories are made of, well, natural bamboo! More dense than maple, bamboo is emerging as the top choice for chefs. It is dense enough to resist knife scarring and naturally resists water penetration and letting bacteria find a place to form. Bamboo is green, renewable and earth-friendly.
Our Graphite Wood Composite is an eco-friendly, non-porous and extremely durable wood composite material. Rated by the National Sanitation Foundation as safe for food cutting and dishwashers, our matte black Graphite is now the best-selling Galley accessory material.
Who would install my new Galley Workstation?A local carpenter can install the Galley Workstation by following the simple instructions found with The Galley and on our website. It is important that the countertop fabricator make the cut-out of exactly 18” front to back to insure that the top tier accessories have the space required to slide as noted in our technical specifications and installation instructions.
Where can I purchase the Galley Workstation? The Galley products can only be purchased from a local authorized dealer or distributor. To find an authorized dealer or distributor in your area, visit the Find A Galley Showroom section of our website. For your protection, The Galley does not approve of the online sales of our Workstations.
After heavy use, the bottom of my Galley Workstation has started to show scratches. What can I do about that?Any stainless steel sink can scratch. But because of the Galley Workstation’s Angel finish, restoring the luster of your Galley Workstation is extremely easy to do with a hand-held orbital sander. Simply use 120-grit sandpaper on your sander and, with medium pressure, sand the bottom of your Galley in a circular motion. It takes about 5-10 minutes. For more information, see the video on Use & Care.
How do you recommend we clean our Galley Workstation? For everyday cleaning, we recommend cleaning the Galley Workstation with a non-abrasive cleaner such as Barkeeper’s Friend. Then use a spray stainless steel polish such as Sheila Shine to restore the luster and keep the tiers sleek so the accessories can slide freely. Visit Use & Care to watch our short “how to” video.
How do I care for my accessories and cutting boards?Cutting boards and all Galley Workstation accessories:
Wash with soap and water. For best long-term care of all Galley Workstation accessories, we recommend not washing them in a dishwasher.
Maintaining Galley Workstation cutting boards:
We recommend using one side of each board for daily use and leaving the other side unused. This way, when you’re entertaining, your boards will look brand-new!
Graphite Wood Composite Accessories:
The color will darken with age and with use. This is normal and should be expected. With the exception of the Drying Rack, the Graphite accessories can be cleaned in the dishwasher, although the color will darken quickly by doing so. For surface marks or light scratches, use 220-grit sandpaper. Mineral oil can be used to condition the material, and to speed up the darkening process. The wood composite is heat-resistant to 350 degrees, but please don’t bake with it. (It’s a wood product, after all!)
Hand-wash with soap & water. White Only: Spray bleach directly onto the white boards to remove heavy stains, allow to sit for 15-20 minutes or until stains dissolve, wash with soap and water. Not recommended for prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Natural Bamboo Accessories:
Hand-wash with soap and water. As you would do with all wooden cutting boards, oil with mineral oil, (about every 4-6 months based on usage), to moisturize the wood, help prevent splitting, and give the bamboo a nice burnished look. From time to time, as with any cutting board, you may notice vegetable stains settling into the board, which is not a health concern but can diminish the beauty of the bamboo. To get rid of stains, scrub coarse salt over the surface of the board with a sponge, then rinse and dry. On rare occasions, odors can also ingrain themselves in the bamboo. You can resolve this by rubbing a simple paste of baking soda and water over the board occasionally before rinsing and drying.
